Grassland farming on site: KIT team visits a farm

After all the cattle returned safely from the Brunnenkopfalm, our partner farmer invited us to visit his farm in the nature park "Ammergauer Alpen". On 14 October, Roman and Gabi Bertl welcomed us at the Jaggala farm in Altenau. The farm is mainly used for dairy farming and the local cattle breed Murnau-Werdenfelser is bred. The robust Murnau-Werdenfelser are also used in our grazing project on the Brunnenkopfalm. In addition, there are goats on the farm, which are mainly used for landscape maintenance. We took a look at the freestall and the outdoor facilities as well as the current "working place" of the goats. Roman and Gabi told us a lot about everyday life on their small family farm and together we discussed current challenges in grassland farming. Our visit was rounded off with a hearty snack with lots of delicious homemade products. A big thank you for this nice and very informative farm visit!
