Grasland production and management observed from space

Satellite data can be used to study the characteristics of grassland, such as plant growth or use, on a large scale. Since the availability of the first satellite data in the 1970s and 1980s, research in this area has been growing steadily. Within the SUSALPS project we wrote an overview article summarizing the state of the art in this field. This article has now been published in the journal Remote Sensing. The evaluation of the available literature (more than 250 research articles) reveals spatial differences in the study of grassland plant production and management. The article also analyzes used and promising methods and parameters and identifies promising research directions.
