Lively discussions at the workshop "Digital Support in Grassland Farming"

On 5 May 2022, the workshop "Digital Support in Grassland Farming" took place at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology - Campus Alpin in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Around 25 participants from agricultural practice and the SUSALPS project exchanged views on current developments and challenges in grassland farming. Important topics of discussion were the effects of climate change on soil health, the formation of humus, yields and forage quality. In addition, the importance of the legal and social framework conditions and their future developments for agriculture became clear in the discussions.

In the afternoon part of the workshop, people worked in two parallel small groups: in one session, different management scenarios were discussed and developed and the framework conditions for these were clarified. In a second session, the participants had the opportunity to test the SUSALPS Decision Support System (DSS) for grassland management. The feedback provided valuable suggestions for the further development of the bioeconomy model and the DSS.
